Principal Investigator Andrea Alù

Andrea Alù is is the founding director of the Photonics Initiative at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, Einstein Professor of Physics and Electrical Engineering at the CUNY Graduate Center and the City College of New York. He has done pioneering works in metamaterials, plasmonic optics, nanophotonics, nanoantennas and nanocircuits, non-reciprocal electromagnetics and acoustics.   He is the author of over 400 archival journal papers and the co-inventor of 15 US patents/applications on metamaterial devices, and has received various awards and distinctions for his research work on plasmonics, nanophotonics, applied electromagnetics, and metamaterials, including the Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher in Physics (2017), ICO Prize in Optics (2016), NSF Alan T. Waterman award (2015), Edith and Peter O’Donnell Award for Engineering (2016), OSA Adolph Lomb medal (2013), URSI Issac Koga Gold medal (2011), SPIE Early Career Achievement Award (2012), and an NSF CAREER award in 2010. He is a Fellow of OSA, APS, IEEE and SPIE.
